FIVE COOLEST NICKNAMES FOR PLAYERS WEEKEND: NUMBER 1 – “SLEDGE”

Well, the Kansas City Royals already had a “Hammer” on their hands and now they have a “Sledge” and a “Hammer”. Peter Moylan picked the name Sledge for his Player’s Weekend jersey and I think it’s the coolest nickname of the weekend for the Royals.

Moylan explained the reasoning for his nickname was that “Sledging” is a term in cricket (which is popular in Australia) that means trash talking. He went with the hometown route and taught us all something new about the sport of cricket. What’s not to love?

[Moylan] went with the hometown route and taught us all something new about the sport of cricket.

"“Sledging is just trash talking in cricket, and there’s an art to it,” Moylan said. “Sledging is not personal, but it’s really funny.”"

I think this name is easily the best on the team. Moylan could have been “MOYLO” or “PETE” or any variation on his name like a lot of guys did, but he got creative. That’s pretty cool of him to really get into it and incorporate Australia into his jersey name for the weekend.

Way to go Sledge!
