Kansas football all-time receiving yards: 5. Richard Estell (1,997)

We’re now in the top five for all-time receiving yard leaders for the Jayhawks and coming in fifth is Richard Estell, who caught passes for the crimson and blue from 1983-1985. Estell broke onto the scene in a big way during the 1985 season, grabbing 70 passes for 1,109 yards and four touchdowns.

The two seasons prior to that saw Estell record 888 yards receiving with four touchdowns, putting his three-year total at 117 receptions for 1,997 yards and eight scores. Sadly, Estell was just three yards shy of breaking the 2,000 yards mark. That had to be frustrating for him!

Estell went on to spend a brief period of time in the pros. He appeared in two games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1987, catching three passes for 24 yards and was out of the league after that.

Estell’s incredible 1985 season helped get him this high on KU’s all-time receiving yards list and he still sits in the top five to this day. It will be awhile before he gets bumped from the five spot.
