Kansas City Chiefs: Things Learned In Preseason Week 2

#3 Big Plans For Ramik Wilson

It would appear that the Kansas City Chiefs have found an answer at inside linebacker. Ramik Wilson has stepped up to take the starting job next to Derrick Johnson. However, possibly even more significant is that he is also the top backup to Johnson. That may mean that he is the Chiefs heir-apparent to DJ.

That’s not a bad change of fortunes for a guy who didn’t even make the 53-man roster last year. In 2016, Kansas City chose to go with veteran Sam Barrington over Ramik Wilson. However, injuries forced them to bring Wilson back. Since then, he has impressed the coaching staff and steadily improved his product on the field.

If the Chiefs do have a potential heir for Derrick Johnson in Ramik Wilson, that is a huge boost moving forward. There is no doubt that this is a big question for the front office and coaching staff. So the fact that Wilson is registering snaps as both a starter and as Johnson’s top backup is a very big deal.
