Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target in 2017 – Number 8: MARCUS MARIOTA

2016 Ranking: 13th

There is a lot of hype for the Tennessee Titans this season and a lot of that stems from the fact that Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota took a big leap from 2015 to 2016. Mariota, the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, threw for 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns a season ago. He posted 259.9 points last year in fantasy.

This year, the Titans got Mariota even more help. Before, he really only had Delanie Walker to throw to, but this season, the former Oregon Duck will have Eric Decker along with rookie Corey Davis to throw to. These weapons provide Mariota even more insurance of having an impressive year in the NFL.

Mariota will be compared to Jameis Winston often, due to them being drafted one and two overall two years ago, but Mariota is the better option in fantasy football. He only threw nine picks last year, which is half of Winston’s 2016 interception total.

Mariota is also great to have for his running ability. The former Heisman Trophy winner put up 349 yards on the ground last year and rushed for two touchdowns. He’ll only get more confident in his running ability as his professional career progresses.

The biggest knock on Mariota, however, is that he has yet to start a full-game slate for the Titans. He missed three games in 2015 and missed the season finale a year ago. Mariota missing that game was crucial, as the Titans could have made the playoffs had their starter been healthy.

Target Mariota between rounds eight and 11.
