Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target in 2017 – Number 12: DEREK CARR
2016 Ranking: 11th
Taking the leap to being one of the better young quarterbacks in the league last year, the hype is real for Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. The former Fresno State standout is going to be one of those guys that is drafted way higher than he should be.
Derek Carr will have a good year in 2017, but don’t buy into the hype that he’s going to be one of the best fantasy football quarterbacks.
Don’t get me wrong, Carr will be a good fantasy quarterback, as he was in 2016 with a total of 268.5 points. Carr has top notch receivers in Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree and one of the best offensive lines in the league, making him a great option to have start for your squad.
With all of that said, however, Carr isn’t a better choice at quarterback than guys like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. He’ll have great games, sure, but as fans witnessed last year, Carr had a few duds in which he failed to put up double digit points. In his second outing against the Chiefs, Carr only managed to give his owners four points in standard PPR leagues.
Derek Carr will have a good year in 2017, but don’t buy into the hype that he’s going to be one of the best fantasy football quarterbacks. That’s just insanity.
Carr is worthy of grabbing in the later rounds for sure though. He stays healthy and isn’t afraid to throw the ball down the field.
