Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Target in 2017 – Number 14: CARSON PALMER

2016 Ranking: 19th

After a tremendous year in 2015 in which Carson Palmer led the Cardinals to an appearance in the NFC Championship Game, he took a step back in 2016. For one, Palmer threw 11 less touchdowns in the 2016 season and threw three more picks. All together, he had 400 less yards in a disappointing season for Arizona.

While Palmer is getting up there in age (he’ll turn 38 in December), he is returning to play in 2017 and will look to put up as good of numbers as he did in 2015. Palmer is a capable starter in a league and will for sure be someone’s backup if you play in a league with more than ten people.

Palmer still has Larry Fitzgerald as well as John Brown and J.J. Nelson to throw to. The weapons are aplenty in the desert and that will help Palmer as he looks to get the birds back to the playoffs this year.

As for when to draft Carson Palmer, I’d say he’s a safe pick after the 12th round, but if people begin to make a run on quarterbacks and he’s there, grab him.

I had Carson Palmer as my starter last year and Alex Smith was my backup. I think I ended up slotting Smith in a few games simply because Palmer didn’t look as sharp as he did the year prior.  I was disappointed, but at the same time, he still threw for 4,200+ yards in 15 games.

Health is another concern with Palmer, but it is worth noting that he has only missed one start in the last two seasons.
