Kansas City Chiefs: 10 things learned in St Joseph
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs have closed up shop in St Joseph, Missouri, and are headed back to Arrowhead for the rest of camp. Here’s what we learned.
It seems like the Kansas City Chiefs just started training camp, but already the team is headed back home to Arrowhead Stadium. With the Chiefs second preseason game coming this weekend, the team will be finishing camp from their home facility in Kansas City. However, they made the most of their time in St Joe’s and we’ve learned quite a bit.
The Chiefs appear to have a very solid roster for the 2017 season. Coming into training camp, there were still a number of questions that needed to be answered. For the most part, it appears that the KC front office and coaching staff have addressed most of those concerns. A solid preseason opener from the first and second teams is a good sign.
Granted, the Chiefs didn’t win their first preseason game. However, that’s not what is important at this time of the year. The preseason is about figuring out what kind of talent a team has on their roster. For Kansas City, that first exhibition game showed that they had quite a bit of talent to rely on.
Last Round In St Joe’s?
However, there is one question that has presented itself for the Kansas City Chiefs. That is in regards to the future of the team’s training camp itself. For the past several years, the Chiefs have partnered with Missouri Western State University. 2017 is the final year of that current partnership.
The KC leadership has expressed interest in renewing the deal with Missouri Western, as has the school. However, mutual interest doesn’t always mean a deal is going to happen. It would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs to consider a location closer to St Louis in the future to help expand their brand.
Whatever the Chiefs decide to do in the future, there is no doubt that this year’s trip to St Joe’s has been a good one. We’ve seen a lot from the Kansas City roster, and there is plenty to be excited about. There’s still a ways to go before the season starts, but here is what we’ve learned so far…
