Week 2 – Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles

Sunday, September 17th, 2017 (12:00 CST kickoff on FOX)

After taking an early season loss in week one, the KC Chiefs will head home to a warm welcome at Arrowhead Stadium. Their opponent? The Philadelphia Eagles, who Andy Reid used to coach for over a decade.

The Eagles are an interesting team this season. They have former Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson heading into year two of his head coaching gig and also will be throwing second year quarterback Carson Wentz into the fire.

Wentz looked pretty good to start off his rookie year, but began to look more and more like a rookie as the year progressed. Wentz will either build on what he learned from his first year in the pros, or he’ll experience the dreaded “sophomore slump” that so many young quarterbacks face.

The Eagles aren’t going to be an easy home opener opponent for the Chiefs.

The Eagles went 7-9 last season, but Bill Barnwell of ESPN actually said they had the ability to make the playoffs last year. They just happened to have ran into some bad luck.

"Advanced metrics suggest Doug Pederson’s team was already playoff-caliber last season; the Eagles finished fourth in DVOA (just ahead of the Steelers) and had the sixth-best point differential in the NFC, which should have been enough to push them into a wild-card spot. With [the game] being the team’s home opener and against Andy Reid’s old team, the Chiefs will be motivated and pull this win out."

In other words, the Eagles aren’t going to be an easy home opener opponent for the Chiefs. They added some nice names their offense this season like LeGarrette Blount, Alshon Jeffrey, and Torrey Smith. Giving Wentz more weapons should help his progression in year two, but let’s hope he has a slow start to the season and struggles at Arrowhead.

This won’t be an easy game, but with it being the team’s home opener and against Andy Reid’s old team (the one that sent him packing at the end of the 2012 season), the Chiefs will be motivated and pull this win out.

Prediction: The Chiefs give us a bit of a scare in week two, but come out victorious. They win the game with a field goal in the final seconds.17-14, Chiefs.

Standout Player: Cairo Santos gets the nod here. His last second heroics will win the game for Kansas City and the crowd will be forever grateful for him.
