Week 1 – Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots

Thursday, September 7th, 2017 (7:30 CST kickoff on NBC)

The Kansas City Chiefs got some high praise heading into the 2017 season and that’s the fact that they’ll be apart of the opening game for the 2017 regular season. That’s right, Chiefs Kingdom, your team will be facing the reigning Super Bowl champs of New England in the season opener!

While being apart of the opening game is exciting, let’s face it… The Chiefs really don’t have a great shot at winning this game. That’s not me being pessimistic, it’s me being truthful.

This is the Patriots we’re talking about. They’re a dynasty in the NFL.

First of all, the Chiefs have struggled in Foxborough since the Brady-Belichick era has been a thing. In fact, the Chiefs have not won a game at Gillette Stadium since Tom Brady has been the Patriots quarterback.

Second, this is the Patriots we’re talking about. They’re a dynasty in the NFL and as long as Tom Brady is quarterbacking that offense, they’re always going to be the team to beat in the AFC.

Being a pessimist isn’t fun, but when it comes to playing the Patriots on the road, I can’t pick the Chiefs to win.

Third, the Patriots will be returning to their stadium for the first (meaningful) time since coming back in crazy fashion and defeating the Falcons in the Super Bowl. The excitement of a new season, getting their fifth Super Bowl banner raised in the last 15 years, and just knowing they have the best football team in the league is going to make the intensity at Gillette Stadium too much for the Chiefs to handle.

Being a pessimist isn’t fun, but when it comes to playing the Patriots on the road, I can’t pick the Chiefs to win. I just can’t.

Prediction: The Chiefs won’t get destroyed, but they’ll never really be in this game. They take a loss in the first week of the season and move on knowing that their toughest game of the season is over with. 21-10, Patriots.

Standout Player: Boring answer, but I’m going to go with recently acquired Chief, Bennie Logan. He’ll do a good job at stopping the Patriots run and that’ll be the one thing fans are really excited about after this game.
