Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp 2017 – Wide Receivers
Winner: Demarcus Robinson
After hardly seeing the field at all for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Demarcus Robinson has now moved into the starting mix at wide receiver. He’s currently getting work as the #3 guy, usually in the slot. In today’s NFL, that is basically the same as being a starter. That’s a huge jump for him.
Demarcus Robinson had a ton of talent and potential coming out of Florida. The question with him has been on the mental/maturity side of things. It’s not outrageous to think the Chiefs used 2016 to cool his head and force him to step up. It appears he’s getting his opportunity now and making the most of it.
Loser: Gehrig Dieter
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have many spots on the roster that are locked up at wide receiver. That means there is a bit of an open competition for a couple of spots. That’s good news for young wide receivers like Gehrig Dieter. However, it has been Seantavius Jones making the most of the opportunity.
Gehrig Dieter was one of the more talked about undrafted free agents for the Chiefs this year. He isn’t out of the running yet, but he’s not getting his name out there very much in the early reports. He needs to do something to separate himself from the rest of the pack and get noticed. Even if it’s on Special Teams. That’s his best bet for making the team.
