Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp 2017 – Running Backs
Winner: Kareem Hunt
It appears the Kansas City Chiefs may have made a good choice in selecting Kareem Hunt in this year’s draft. The rookie running back has been impressive early in camp and has already earned reps with the second team offense. That is a good sign for his future, as well as for the Chiefs depth chart.
With CJ Spiller and Charcandrick West both on the roster, there is talent in the Kansas City backfield. Earning second team reps isn’t anything to scoff at for Kareem Hunt. There are some high expectations for him this year, and splitting starting carries with Spencer Ware is not out of the question.
Loser: Charcandrick West
The truth is that Charcandrick West was in for a tough camp battle as it was. That has been made even tougher now though with West missing time for an ankle injury. In his place, CJ Spiller has been making the most of his opportunities. That could be a dangerous situation for West.
CJ Spiller is a cheaper option than Charcandrick West, which means the Chiefs incumbent needs to show the team he has more value. If West can’t prove that it is in KC’s best interest to keep him around, then this will become a simple accounting solution.
