Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview
Tamba Hali – Outside Linebacker
It feels like we’ve been talking about the pending retirement of Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher Tamba Hali forever now. The veteran linebacker will be turning 34 this year, but has put a lot of mileage on his body during his career. However, he still plays a very vital role in the KC defense.
If there was an award for player’s “motor”, it would have to go to Tamba Hali. Though he can’t play at the same high level he used to for an extended period, when he gets on the field you see that he’s going all out. Of course, it’s also that motor that has also worn him down a bit over the years.
The big questions regarding Tamba Hali are how much time can he spend on the field and how effective can he be out there. The Chiefs have clearly thought about the future by drafting Dee Ford (for better or worse). Hali knows he’s coming to the end of it, but is holding on.
Prediction
I don’t see the Chiefs moving on from Tamba Hali this year. It wouldn’t make much sense financially or tactically. However, he will likely continue to play a limited role for the Chiefs defense. Expect to see him in obvious pass rushing situations.
