Royals Rumors: Potential starting pitchers on market for 2017 deadline
SONNY GRAY (OAKLAND ATHLETICS)
5-4 record, 3.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP (Free agent in 2020)
This one is not going to happen, especially now that it’s been reported that the Cubs are interested in trading for Sonny Gray. The Cubs added Jose Quintana earlier this week and now are after another controllable player past 2017.
Gray isn’t having a tremendous season with the A’s, but he’s had great success in the past. His first three MLB seasons were magnificent and in Gray’s 2015 All-Star campaign, he had a sparkling 2.73 ERA and 14-7 record.
The last two seasons have been a disappointment for Gray. Injuries plagued his 2016 campaign and he didn’t get off to a great start this season. Make no mistake though… With the right team, Sonny Gray could get hot and really lead the charge in a playoff rotation.
There is likely zero chance of this happening, but hey… It’s fun to dream, right?
