TREVOR CAHILL (SAN DIEGO PADRES)

3-3 record, 3.38 ERA, 1.224 WHIP (Free agent in 2018)

No one really knows a whole lot about the San Diego Padres this season, which if you’ve watched them play is understandable, but Trevor Cahill could be a great rotation target for the Royals moving forward on the season.

Cahill has started nine games to this point and honestly has looked pretty good during that time. He’d just be a rental player, as his contract with San Diego is up after this season, so he’d be the perfect guy to target in this situation for that reason.

The Royals don’t have the prospects or the cash to land a guy with several years left on his contract, so I like the idea of targeting Trevor Cahill.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this trade happening. Other teams have more to offer the Padres than the Royals do, but this would definitely be one of the better trades that Dayton Moore could make at the deadline.
