Royals Rumors: Potential starting pitchers on market for 2017 deadline
JEFF SAMARDZIJA (SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS)
4-10 record, 4.58 ERA, 1.153 WHIP (Free agent in 2021)
Royals fans will flip out when hearing Jeff Samardzija‘s name, mainly because he was a villain to this team in the 2015 season. Samardzija hit Lorenzo Cain with a pitch on Opening Day and later was a prime instigator in the big blowup at then U.S. Cellular Field (now Guaranteed Rate Field or whatever the heck the White Sox’s stadium is called now).
Samardzija hasn’t been good this season. He already has double digit losses, his ERA and WHIP are both bad, and the guy is really overpaid to be a below average pitcher in the major leagues. Despite all of that, however, it appears that the Houston Astros are interested in acquiring Samardzija.
This is a pitcher that I see the Kansas City Royals having NO INTEREST in pursuing. Not because of the previous negative history between the two, but because he wouldn’t be worth trading for. The guy can pitch deep into games, but that’s after getting shelled for a bunch of runs by the opposition.
Let the Astros have Samardzija please. I want no part of him in Kansas City.
