Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview

Mitch Morse – Center

When he was first drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, the pressure was immediately on for Mitch Morse. He would be coming in and replacing a very highly regarded center in Rodney Hudson. What’s more, many felt that Morse had been drafted too high. That’s a lot for a rookie to live up to.

However, Mitch Morse has proven himself to be up for the task so far in his young career. The center from Mizzou has become one of the Chiefs better offensive linemen. Morse shows all the characteristics you want to see in a starting center. If he continues on the trek he’s had early on, there is a chance that he begins to get some Pro Bowl mention.

The only hang up so far with Mitch Morse has been injury related. Morse has dealt with injuries a couple of times in his career, especially concussions. That will be a bit worrisome for the Chiefs moving forward. However, if Morse can get through this year healthy, then I’d expect the team makes some long-term considerations for him.

Interestingly enough, center is the one position that the Chiefs could probably afford to lose someone. Zach Fulton has also proven himself to be a quality center. That could get interesting if the Chiefs receive some calls regarding a potential trade.

Prediction

Unless someone blows the doors off the Chiefs with a trade offer, then you can go ahead and pencil in Mitch Morse as the starting center. While Zach Fulton is a quality player at center as well, you don’t mess with chemistry if you don’t have to. The Chiefs need stability in the offensive line, and Morse brings that.
