Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview

Eric Fisher – Left Tackle

There were a number of angry fans when the Kansas City Chiefs selected Eric Fisher #1 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. However, most of that has subsided since then. What Chiefs fans have come to find out is that the team probably did make the right pick, as so many players from that draft class are already gone from the NFL.

Eric Fisher is not a dominant left tackle, but he has shown steady improvement each season. Last year was easily his best, and it earned him a new contract. However, the Chiefs need him to continue to improve and become the anchor on the left side of the line.

With his good lateral quickness and long arms, Eric Fisher has the ideal tools to be a good left tackle. However, he still needs to work on adding some functional strength to his game. Fisher will often get beat by a bull rush from some of the stronger pass rushers. However, when asked to kick outside, he is very reliable as a blocker.

There isn’t really any competition on the roster for Eric Fisher. The Chiefs appear to be fully committed to him moving forward. Hopefully that commitment gets rewarded with quality play. Fisher has to continue improving.

Prediction

There isn’t much of a prediction to make here. Eric Fisher is the starting left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. Unless the team goes out of their way to bring in someone new, there just isn’t any way that changes right now.
