Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Preview

Demarcus Robinson – Wide Receiver

Believe it or not, but the star of the Kansas City Chiefs offseason program so far has been Demarcus Robinson. The second-year receiver out of Florida came out of college with a lot of potential, but with some very serious red flags. The Chiefs may have worked that out of him by relegating him to a Special Teams role as a rookie.

Whatever the Chiefs did, it appears to be working (at least in non-contact practices). Demarcus Robinson was continuously talked about by those on hand to watch the practices. That’s not a surprise to me. I’ve been big on Robinson since day one, and I truly believe he has the potential to be a quality “#2 receiver” in the NFL.

Demarcus Robinson is a well-rounded athlete who showed big play potential in college. He has the natural talents to match up well against most defenses he’ll see in the NFL. Robinson also has reliable hands and tracks the ball well. That is what really makes him a deep ball threat.

However, his attitude was definitely a problem in college, and the major reason why he was still available in the fourth round. From a pure talent perspective, he should have gone in the second round. He has kept his nose clean so far in Kansas City, and this is an excellent chance to make his mark.

Prediction

The upset of Chiefs Training Camp will be when Demarcus Robinson takes the #2 job away from Chris Conley. That’s my bold(est) prediction for camp this year. I have a lot of faith in the talent of Robinson, and I don’t know that Conley has shown he has the ability to get open consistently. Someone needs to step up with Jeremy Maclin gone, and my money is on Robinson.
