MOST DISAPPOINTING ROYAL SO FAR – NUMBER 2: ALEX GORDON

Sadly, Alex Gordon is appearing on this list after a lackluster start to year two of his big contract. Gordon is slashing .195/.290/.302 with five home runs and 26 RBI in 262 at bats.

Make no mistake – Gordon is number two on here for a reason, but he did look much better during the month of June. Once he and Alcides Escobar started to produce, the bottom of the lineup wasn’t worthless, and fans actually began to have faith in Gordon again.

The former first round pick still hasn’t gotten over the Mendoza line this season and it could be awhile before he does get to that point. Last year, he finished the season with a .220 average, but hit 17 home runs.

If the Royals can at least get some homers out of Alex Gordon, then I think fans will definitely take that. For now, however, he’s still the second most disappointing player for the Kansas City Royals at the All-Star break.
