MOST DISAPPOINTING ROYALS SO FAR – NUMBER 5: JORGE SOLER

This could be another one that is dubbed as “unfair”, but I’m including Jorge Soler anyway. Let me say this: I understand that Jorge Soler is a project for the Kansas City Royals. He’s not supposed to be crushing it at the plate in year one with the team, but he should be batting better than .159 after 88 at bats.

Soler was off to a bad start in Kansas City and looked awful in spring training. He began the season on the disabled list and then struggled with the big league club when he was activated off the DL.

After spending several weeks in Triple-A Omaha (and absolutely mashing there), Soler was brought back to the majors and hasn’t done much. He’s fifth on here because none of us expected him to be batting .300 with 20 home runs, but we also didn’t think he’d only be batting .159 with two homers.

Soler has three more years on his contract left, so the Royals have time with this kid, but it does seem like maybe the Cubs will be laughing about this trade years down the road.
