Five Biggest Rivals – Number Three: Iowa State Cyclones

Some of the greatest games of KU Basketball have happened at Hilton Coliseum and when Iowa State has visited Allen Fieldhouse. The frustration that I have experienced as a Jayhawk fan is unmatched when Iowa State gets on an unrelenting three-point shooting streak, especially when it breaks a long standing at home winning streak.

Almost every year, the top contender against the Jayhawks for the Big 12 regular season title is Iowa State.

It seems like Iowa State always meets the Jayhawks in the Big 12 tournament as well. No matter where the Jayhawks go or how far they get ahead in every game, they always have to be worried about the Cyclones. The Cyclones never seem to give up, and the Hilton Magic always seems to play in as a factor as well.

Almost every year, the top contender against the Jayhawks for the Big 12 regular season title is Iowa State. That plays in as a major factor when KU basketball visits Ames and plays against the roaring student section at Hilton. Some of the most exciting games that KU Basketball has been apart of the past few years has been against the sneaky Cyclones.

Remember Elijah Johnson and the overtime game with the controversial dunk? How about Ben McLemore’s winning banked in three point buzzer shot? Or even last season’s at home heartbreaker in overtime? Yep, the Cyclones have always been clinging to the Jayhawks backs. which is why they are at number three on this countdown.
