Kansas State all-time leaders in rushing yards: 8: J.J. Smith (2,210)

J.J. Smith played for four years in Manhattan and racked up a total of 2,210 rushing yards to go along with 22 touchdowns. His first two years as a Wildcat weren’t anything special, but by his junior year, he became one of the best players on the team.

Smith propelled the Wildcats to a 9-2-1 record in 1993 after he rushed for 748 yards off of 190 carries with ten trips to the end zone. He also had 20 catches for 247 yards and two receiving touchdowns as well to pad those 1993 stats.

The Wildcats would win the Copper Bowl that year, their first Bowl victory in school history. Smith had 133 rushing yards on the night and found the end zone as well.

The following season, J.J. Smith took the next step for the Cats. While the team technically had a worse record at 9-3, Smith put up 1,073 rushing yards with ten touchdowns on the year. In the receiving game, he had 39 catches for 275 yards and a touchdown.

While J.J. Smith didn’t make it to the NFL, he had an amazing two-year run in Manhattan and still sits eighth all-time in rushing yards for the program.
