Kansas City Chiefs: Latest news on the GM search
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs have begun their search for the next general manager. As expected, the job is attracting a number of quality candidates from all over. Here is the latest news on who the Chiefs are looking at.
After the surprising firing of general manager John Dorsey, the Kansas City Chiefs are wading into unknown territory. Despite Dorsey’s generally highly-praised tenure as the GM, the Chiefs felt it best to part ways. Pick your reasoning for it, but the situation is what it is. Now Kansas City is doing what nobody does, searching for a new GM in the summer.
The good news here is that the Kansas City job should be one that is highly coveted. Despite some recent turmoil regarding the front office, the Chiefs are a very stable franchise. The team has posted a winning record in each of the last four seasons, including a 12-4 mark last year.
Kansas City also has a ton of talent on the roster, as well as a top tier head coach. The Chiefs even went out and addressed the future of their quarterback position this year. That is a very big burden that the next GM won’t have to worry about right away.
The job in KC checks a lot of boxes for up and coming general manager candidates. A position with this much going for it should not be coming available. However, unexpected things happen all the time. Now it is just a matter of someone stepping up and taking advantage of what could be called a golden opportunity.
