MAHOMES NOT THE MAN?

Fans were elated when the KC Chiefs traded up to draft Patrick Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes surely would have been off the board by the time the Chiefs selected at pick 28, so the Chiefs did what they had to do and traded up to get him tenth overall.

Everyone was led to believe that the decision to draft Mahomes was a consensual one throughout the organization, but was it? What if one of the two men in charge didn’t think Mahomes was the right pick in the first round? That could certainly provide some drama if the two weren’t on the same page regarding the future franchise quarterback.

If Reid wanted Mahomes and convinced the team to draft him, then that’s not nearly as big of a white flag than if it were the other way around. If John Dorsey was the one who wanted to trade up to nab Mahomes and is now fired because of it, then it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that isn’t good news for the future of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Reid has had a reputation as a “quarterback guru” during his head coach tenure so it makes sense that he’d want a guy like Patrick Mahomes. Hopefully this had nothing to do with Dorsey getting canned because if it did, that’s not sending a positive message to Chiefs Kingdom.
