Kansas City Royals Single-Season Home Runs #7

Jermaine Dye – 33 (2000)

The early 2000s of Kansas City Royals baseball is best known for the players who left to have solid major league careers. One of those players was Jermaine Dye, who spent five years in KC before moving on to truly make a name for himself. However, in 2000 Dye would have a solid season for the Royals, mashing 33 home runs.

The 2000 Royals squad may be one of the most disappointing in team history. A team that featured Jermaine Dye, Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran, and Mike Sweeney, yet was unable to even get to .500. That was not due to a lack of effort by those players.

Jermaine Dye would leave the Royals and eventually land with the Chicago White Sox, where he would earn World Series MVP honors in 2005. Dye is one of many players that Kansas City fans refer to when talking about the bad old days of essentially being a farm system for the rest of the league.
