Kansas City Royals Single-Season Home Runs #4 (tied)

John Mayberry – 34 (1975)

When it comes to the history of he Kansas City Royals, it’s easy to overlook the players that came before those early 1980s teams that were so good. However, there were some very good teams in the late 70s as well, and John Mayberry was big piece of that. The power hitting first baseman had an especially good year in 1975.

Crushing 35 home runs and driving in 106 RBIs, Mayberry was a key cog in the Royals offense that year. It would be the best season of John Mayberry’s career, but not good enough to get Kansas City in the postseason.

Though most fans today won’t know his name, those who grew up in the heyday of Royals baseball certainly will. Those teams of the late 70s and early 80s were some of the best the league has seen. Guys like John Mayberry played a big role in that.
