CHESLOR CUTHBERT

This one might seem odd to some, but it makes sense in the long run, I promise. With Mike Moustakas probably departing Kansas City this offseason anyway, the team wouldn’t want to “waste” a spot on the protection list for him. Instead, they protect the future at third base after Moustakas, and that guy is Cheslor Cuthbert.

Cuthbert hasn’t had a big role for the Royals this season, but that’s honestly a good sign for the team, as it means the other factors are contributing the way they should be.

Cuthbert has appeared in 30 games this year, slashing .205/.224/.289 in 83 at bats. He has the ability to play third base, which is likely where he’ll be slotted in at after Moose leaves, second base, and can take swings as the designated hitter. That makes Cuthbert valuable and with years left on his contract, the Royals need to keep him in Kansas City.

Even though his stats aren’t mind blowing and his playing time has been limited, Cheslor Cuthbert has to be protected because he’s more than likely the future at third base for the Kansas City Royals.
