Every Royals first-round draft pick since 2000: Chase Vallot (2014)

The Royals had three first-rounders in 2014’s draft and Chase Vallot was their final pick in the first round. There weren’t many expectations for him early on given his position and how the Royals were perfectly fine for quite some time there, but as time went on, it didn’t seem like Vallot would be amounting to much in Kansas City.

Vallot spent 2018 with Wilmington and Idaho Falls, combining for a slash line of .184/.320/.392 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI. He recently entered free agency, which is something minor league players can do after they’ve failed to make it to the big leagues through seven seasons.

Vallot didn’t sign with anyone and as of this writing, is still a free agent. He wasn’t the flashy pick in the 2014 draft, as that honor went to Finnegan, but the Royals hoped to at least get something out of him. That did not happen, unfortunately.

Maybe Vallot gets a shot down the road, but it doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.
