Kansas City Chiefs: Pros and cons of cutting Jeremy Maclin

The Kansas City Chiefs released Jeremy Maclin last week and fans are still upset about it. The Chiefs obviously saw Maclin as an expendable option, but the local connection with Maclin will make this tough to get over.

Releasing Jeremy Maclin was not something that many Kansas City Chiefs fans expected to happen this offseason. It’s true that Maclin had a down year last season, but many fans figured the former Missouri Tiger would bounce back in 2017.

Maclin could still have a bounce back season, but if he does, it won’t be in a Chiefs uniform. He’s become the hottest name on the free agent market now and if the Chiefs hadn’t been the team to release him, fans would have been clamoring for their own squad to go and sign him. Sigh.

I was at a wedding this past weekend and when I went to congratulate the groom, all he wanted to talk about with me was how upset he was that Maclin had been cut. I consoled him, of course, just like a good friend does, but believe me… I was equally upset.

With the news of Maclin no longer being a member of the KC Chiefs, I decided to look at both the pros and the cons of his release. Brace yourselves, Chiefs Kingdom. This one is going to be fun.
