Kansas City Chiefs Release Jeremy Maclin

How Will The Money Be Spent?

I really wish I could tell Kansas City Chiefs fans that there was a really exciting move about to take place. Unfortunately, that is very likely not the case. The Chiefs are probably not going to be adding any big name free agents…mainly because there really aren’t any available.

In fact, a good portion of this money is probably going to be carried over to the 2018 season. The Chiefs will of course sign all their draft picks soon, and maybe make a mid level acquisition. However, this cap space does the most good in 2018.

Then again, you never know who will end up getting released by their current team. Jeremy Maclin was certainly a surprise, and there will definitely be more as the offseason goes on. It will be a wait and see game, but I’m not going to get my hopes up for any kind of a big signing.

Of course, there are also some pending 2018 free agents in house who need new contracts. Dustin Colquitt and Cairo Santos stand out as guys who could use new deals for the Chiefs. There are also plenty of mid level players who could be extended as well, though I expect most of those deals to come a bit later.
