KEVIN MCCARTHY

Recently called up to the majors, Kevin McCarthy hasn’t seen much playing time on the mound yet. He appeared in Wednesday night’s game, throwing a scoreless inning against the Tigers.

Not only was McCarthy’s one inning of work scoreless, but he allowed no hits and struck out one batter. He looked good in his season debut and the Royals will need him to replicate that performance time and time again this year.

It’s no secret that the KC Royals’ bullpen has been a big question mark this season, but there’s certainly potential there. Kelvin Herrera has started to look better, Joakim Soria had one bad outing, Matt Strahm is improving each game, and Mike Minor has been a wonderful surprise.

If McCarthy can pitch a clean inning every few days (or whenever called upon), then this bullpen will slowly, but surely get better. That’s the goal.
