Kansas City Chiefs: Teams that make sense for Alex Smith after 2017

Potential Landing Spots for Alex Smith
Retirement
This is probably the most unrealistic option that Smith will get following Mahomes receiving the starting job, but that all depends on what happens next season. If Smith can manage to pull through and win a Super Bowl for the Chiefs, then his time in Kansas City becomes unbounded. A Super Bowl would win him a ring, and a career that will most likely end in KC.
Chiefs fans should be ambitious for what Patrick Mahomes holds for them, but also thankful of what Smith did for the whole organization
Right now, Smith is the carrier of his own destiny. If he improves, then he should be safe to stay in KC for as long as he can.
If he underperforms next season, especially in the playoffs, then his time in KC could meet its end. A Super Bowl may be the only thing that will get Alex Smith to retire rather than sign with another team once Patrick Mahomes takes over.
If this feat is not accomplished, however, Smith will most likely look to get his ring elsewhere, which would be extremely hard with the teams on this list that are just looking for a program rebound. Smith should be aware of this and hopefully will put everything he has into this next season for the Chiefs.
No matter what happens though, Smith has a murky future ahead of him. A future that could be decided next season.
Alex Smith has brought Chiefs Kingdom back from the depths of the NFL, he is a great veteran quarterback with consistent play and a heralded stint in Kansas City. Chiefs fans should be ambitious for what Patrick Mahomes holds for them, but also thankful of what Smith did for the whole organization.
