The Kansas City Chiefs drafted their quarterback of the future, so Alex Smith’s time as a Chief is now a ticking clock. After it is all said and done and Mahomes is finally the starter, where will Smith go?

With all the talk about Alex Smith and his eventual departure from the Kansas City Chiefs, it is becoming, well…repetitive. It is close to fact that Alex Smith’s days as a Chief are numbered, but will anyone stop to thank him? Alex Smith brought the Chiefs from the bottom of the league to first place in the AFC West.

He deserves the greatest thanks and respect for setting the Chiefs up for a brighter future. Included into this said brighter future is Smith’s first round pick replacement. He is definitely getting replaced and Chiefs fans should hope that he gets what he is looking for after he is done in Kansas City… that is if he does not find what he is looking for next season.

Yes, Smith wants a Super Bowl ring as much as the next guy. Hopefully, he is determined enough to shoot for the Lombardi Trophy next season. If not, he may be out the door as soon as the 2018 season. So, where could Smith land once Patrick Mahomes becomes the next starter for the Chiefs?

There are plenty of teams in the same situation as Kansas City was before acquiring Smith.

Teams that have great pieces to their offenses and defenses, but are missing a consistent player at quarterback. These teams may have answers in the future or they may not. They may just be waiting for a quarterback like Smith to fall in their lap.

That sounds pretty similar to what Kansas City did and has been doing for about the past 20 years. Now things have completely changed and the Chiefs are in a great position to get fresher legs and arms in at quarterback. Still, this situation is completely hypothetical. Nothing is determined yet for Smith and his fate past the Chiefs is yet to be seen.

However, for the sake of my curiosity, and most likely yours, let’s look at the possible landing spots for Alex Smith after Patrick Mahomes.
