SO LONG TO A FAN FAVORITE

On the flip side of re-signing Eric Berry, fans knew that it was inevitable that the Kansas City Chiefs would be parting ways with Dontari Poe during the offseason.

Simply put – Poe just wasn’t what he once was. He’s a big guy and has had back surgery and that showed on the field in 2016. Poe couldn’t stop the run and it showed in just about every single game in 2016.

While fans loved Poe’s energy and the fact that he scored touchdowns on the offense, it was becoming all too real that he wouldn’t be wearing a Chiefs uniform in 2017 and beyond. The former first round pick in 2012 ended up signing with the Falcons and the Chiefs signed Bennie Logan to be their new run stopper.

Poe just wasn’t what he once was.

Kansas City also had drafted Chris Jones last year in the second round and Jones showed he can ball this past season. That made it even more acceptable that Poe’s time in Kansas City would be coming to a close.

While this likely won’t be seen as positive to many fans, I consider it to be a good thing because the Chiefs didn’t have a use for Dontari Poe. He wasn’t worth the money they’d have had to drop on him and it showed that the Chiefs were capable of moving on from players if they don’t see a need for him on their team.
