WHIT MERRIFIELD

I haven’t mentioned Whit Merrifield on my five players list since he first came up to Kansas City last month. Honestly, Merrifield wasn’t worth discussing because he wasn’t producing all that well at the plate.

Now, however, Whit Merrifield is heating up and that’s a good sign for the KC Royals. Merrifield’s slash line is currently sitting at .259/.308/.426 in 30 games and 108 at bats with five home runs.

The former South Carolina Gamecock is riding a ten-game hit streak and has belted two home runs during that span. Merrifield appears to be the starting second baseman for most games right now and if he continues hitting, then it’ll be hard for the Royals not to continue playing him there.

Whit Merrifield started off strong last season, but faltered down the stretch and eventually wound up back in Omaha with the Stormchasers. He’s doing the opposite this year and that’s nice to see for sure. Let’s hope he keeps it going!
