JASON VARGAS

After posting the best ERA in all of Major League Baseball, Jason Vargas got lit up against the Yankees last week. Ironically, that’s who he’ll be facing again this go around, only this time it’ll be in New York in a stadium where the baseball flies out of the park on a regular basis.

Vargas’ ERA went from a 1.01 to a 2.03 after his disaster outing against the Yanks, in which he gave up six hits off of seven runs in only four innings of work. It was not a pretty appearance for one Jason Vargas, but he was due for a bad performance after dominating throughout his first seven starts.

With the Royals still sitting in last place in the division, Vargas will constantly be talked about as a potential trade target in the coming months. If he continues pitching how he did last week, however, then those talks will quiet down significantly.

Obviously the Royals hope that Vargas rebounds in Game 1 against the Yankees, but that team saw something that no other team had picked up on in previous outings. Let’s hope they don’t shellack him again on Monday.
