MOST DESPISED ATHLETES IN KC – NUMBER 5: PHILIP RIVERS

When it comes to football players, there may not be one that Chiefs fans dislike more than whiny ol’ Philip Rivers of the now Los Angeles Chargers. While Rivers has yet to take a snap as a member of the LA Chargers, he’s still the most hated guy on that team by Chiefs fans.

Rivers is so disliked in KC because he’s literally always whining. Earlier in his career with the Chargers, Rivers had a reason to be full of himself because his team was good. In fact from 2006-2009, the Chargers were the team to beat in the AFC West.

The Chiefs didn’t fare well against the Bolts back then, going 2-6 against Rivers and his squad. That included a five-game losing streak to San Diego in which Philip Rivers always seemed to put up ridiculous numbers.

One of the classic whiny Philip Rivers moments came during the 2011 season. The Chiefs and Chargers were playing at Arrowhead on Monday Night Football and the game was as close as it could be. It was so close, in fact, that the game ended up going to overtime.

Rivers is so disliked in KC because he’s literally always whining.

The reasoning for that is because near the end of regulation, the Chargers were leading and had the chance to put the game away. Instead, Rivers fumbled the snap at the goal line and the Chiefs recovered.

After Kansas City locked down the win, Rivers was seen on the sideline mouthing, “Worst day ever!”. To this day, it’s still one of the funniest moments I can remember in the NFL.

Another classic moment was in 2014 when all the Chargers had to do to get into the playoffs was beat the Chiefs in the season finale. They lost, of course, and Rivers was seen throwing a legitimate temper tantrum on the sideline.

The Chiefs have a six-game winning streak against the Bolts, which dates back to that 2014 season. Rivers has still played pretty well against KC, but it’s been fun to see the Chiefs finally take it to him after having to watch him be so smug for so long.

Whether he’s in Los Angeles or San Diego, KC Chiefs fans will always have a special kind of hatred for one Philip Rivers.
