MOST DESPISED ATHLETES IN KC – NUMBER 1: LIN ELLIOTT

Good ol’ Lin Elliott… The man who might go down in infamy as THE most hated Kansas City Chiefs player of all-time. It’s not Elliott’s career stats that make him so despised, it’s what he didn’t do in the biggest of moments.

You see… Elliott was a career 81.7% kicker during his time with the Chiefs. He wasn’t bad, he wasn’t fantastic, but for the most part, he was reliable. Sadly, however, Elliott didn’t come through in the clutch and what that resulted in was a long, long, LONG playoff victory drought for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs were playing the Colts in the AFC Divisional Round in the 1995 season. The Chiefs had the best record in the conference that year and as a result, had home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Fans really thought this might finally be the year to get to the Super Bowl, but instead… They were one and done once more.

Who knows what the Kansas City Chiefs would have become if Elliott had even made one of those field goals?

Elliott missed three field goals on that cold day at Arrowhead, one from 35 yards, one from 39 yards, and one from 42 yards out. The Chiefs would go on to lose 10-7 and be eliminated from the playoffs early once again.

The Chiefs wisely decided to release Elliott after the 1995 season ended and he never played professional football again. Chiefs fans will always loathe Lin Elliott for missing those three kicks because honestly… 1995 was the Chiefs’ year to go to the Super Bowl and Elliott ruined that.

Who knows what the Kansas City Chiefs would have become if Elliott had even made one of those field goals? The game would have went to overtime at the very least. Had he made two field goals, the Chiefs would have won and maybe they would have become the next great dynasty in the NFL.

All because of three lousy missed field goals…
