The Future is Here

NASCAR has been suffering from an epidemic of retirements over the past three years.  In addition to Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Columbia, MO native, Carl Edwards, have all called it quits.

Luckily for fans, NASCAR is the midst of a nearly unprecedented youth movement. Chase Elliott (21 years old), Ryan Blaney (23), Kyle Larson (24), and Joey Logano (26) drive for some of NASCAR’s  top teams. In addition, each of the four sits in the top 15 in Cup Series points prior to Kansas Speedway.

The names of Elliott and Blaney may be familiar to you as both are the sons of NASCAR veterans. Chase is the son of the legendary Bill Elliott and Ryan, the son of Dave Blaney. Neither has won a race yet but both are right on the cusp of doing so.

Larson won his first race last season and followed it up with a second victory this season at California Speedway. He also is currently the leader in Cup Series points. Since leaving Joe Gibbs Racing for Team Penske, Logano’s career has really taken off with 16 wins in five seasons.

These young men will likely be making headlines in the sport for years to come. I, for one, couldn’t be more excited to watch how their careers play out and eagerly anticipate their battles ahead.
