The traveling circus that is NASCAR makes its first stop of the season this weekend at Kansas Speedway. While NASCAR may not excite everyone, there are reasons for even casual fans to pay attention.

The best of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will race for a win in the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night. This is the first of Kansas Speedway’s two Cup Series races in 2017.

I know that I’m absolutely stoked for the races but I’m likely one of a relative minority among the Kansas City sports faithful. There are definitely those that just think the sport is a bunch of guys driving in circles.

Fortunately for those who haven’t been following NASCAR, there is arguably no better time to begin. Between the farewell season of an icon, a youth movement gaining steam, and a points battle heating up, there is no dearth of story lines in the sport at this time.
