The Kansas City Royals have had a number of quality pitcher over the years. Despite a lack of overall success for many years, fans were often able to take some level of solace in the individual performances of some of the pitchers on the staff.

The Cy Young award is the top honor for a pitcher in baseball, and it’s a nice feather in the cap for the Royals to have produced four of them (technically three, as Sabes won it twice).

While the Royals don’t have any Cy Young caliber pitchers on their team this year, I don’t think Danny Duffy is too far away from being considered for it. He’s had lights out stuff this season and continues to show why the Royals investing big money in him was a good idea.

Duffy came close to getting the big award last season, but starting the season in the bullpen ultimately hurt his chances. He also had some rough starts near the end of the year, but has looked great so far in 2017.
