LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Best Pick: Mike Williams, WR (Clemson)

First of all, it’s still weird to say Los Angeles Chargers. I’m not sure how long it’ll take me to get used to that.

Anyway… Aside from their first round pick of Clemson’s Mike Williams, the Chargers focused solely on protecting Philip Rivers and on their defense. They didn’t draft a quarterback (they’ll need to focus on replacing Rivers in the near future) or a running back, which they might have wanted to consider with Melvin Gordan’s injury last season.

I think Los Angeles did okay in this draft, but they really should have gone after a quarterback in the middle rounds.

Williams was a nice pick for Los Angeles though and he practically fell into their laps at pick number seven. The Titans had gone with Corey Davis earlier, leaving Williams on the board still. I wonder had Tennessee taken Williams at pick number five if the Bolts would have still addressed receiver.

Los Angeles addressed their offensive line with their next two picks adding Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney to their ranks. With all of the elite pass rushers in the AFC West, the Chargers have to have a good offensive line, as do the rest of the teams in the division. Lamp and Feeney should provide that for LA moving forward.

I’m not real familiar with the guys the Chargers picked up in the later rounds, but looking at their selections, they clearly had a need on offensive line, at safety, and at defensive tackle.

I think Los Angeles did okay in this draft, but they really should have gone after a quarterback in the middle rounds. Rivers can’t play forever and the Chargers should be looking to find his replacement soon.
