TRAVIS WOOD

Surprisingly, I haven’t included Travis Wood yet on my “Five Players to Watch” series, but it’s time to bring him up. Wood has been absolutely terrible since coming to Kansas City.

In nine games, Wood is posting an ERA of 18.56 and an 0-2 record. He’s only made it through three appearances without allowing a hit and just always looks flustered on the mound. Not exactly what fans want from a lefty out of the pen.

I was excited about the Royals signing Travis Wood this past offseason, but he’s been one of the most disappointing players on the team so far. It’s hard to just be angry with Wood, however, as basically everyone out of the bullpen has been bad during this nine-game losing streak.

Perhaps Wood is still living in the moment from getting his World Series ring with the Cubs last week, but he needs to start being that lock down bullpen arm that he was for Chicago a season ago.
