The KC Royals have continued to struggle and have now dropped nine games in a row. They’ve yet to win a game against a division rival and have looked downright awful so far this season.

It’s hard covering the Kansas City Royals right now. Sure, we were spoiled in 2014 and 2015 with back to back World Series appearances, but I don’t think anybody expected the Royals to drop off this quickly after their World Series title in 2015.

The Royals haven’t won a game in nearly two weeks. Their offense has slowly started to pick up, but the pitching has now been faltering. It hasn’t been pretty to say the least.

Now the Chicago White Sox come into town for the second series of this home stand. The Royals and White Sox just faced off last week in Chicago, with the White Sox sweeping Kansas City. It wasn’t a fun series, but hopefully the Royals can do big things in this series. They need to, or players could be leaving for other teams sooner rather than later.

So, who should we be keeping an eye on in this series? Let’s take a look.

LORENZO CAIN

In a rare edition of “Five Players to Watch”, I have included only one position player. That position player is Lorenzo Cain, who very well could be getting traded soon if the Royals don’t turn things around.

Cain is currently batting .272 with an OPS of .385. Cain finally played the long ball on Sunday, belting his first home run of the 2017 season. He’s been the Royals best hitter lately and because of that, might be rewarded by being traded to a better ball club.

Lorenzo Cain is one of the many free agents set to hit free agency this offseason and I don’t see him and the Royals staying together after this season. Trading him soon might be a good idea, as the Nationals are now going to be without Adam Eaton for the rest of the year due to a torn ACL.

It’s been nice knowin’ ya, LoCain.
