Kansas City Chiefs: 2017 NFL Draft Grades from National Media
The Kansas City Chiefs finished their 2017 NFL Draft on Saturday and had six total selections on the day, trading four of them to grab Patrick Mahomes, Kareem Hunt, and Jehu Chesson. How did the nation think KC did in the draft?
For most Chiefs fans, this year’s draft was different than others. Usually, we know the team isn’t drafting a quarterback and will end up drafting a cornerback or a defensive end in the first round. From there, we’re very invested in the rest of the draft because we want to see when or if the team is going to snag a quarterback.
This year, like I said, was different for that reason. The KC Chiefs drafted a quarterback in the first round and it was glorious. After that pick, fans didn’t care nearly as much how the rest of the draft played out because the team locked down the most important position on the field as early as they could.
So, with that said, I decided to sort through what all of the national media outlets were saying about the Chiefs draft. A lot of them seemed to think Kansas City did a good job, with the lowest grade on this list being a C, which is still average.
Personally, I would give the Chiefs somewhere in the B range. They did a great job locking down their future franchise quarterback, but they should have added a cornerback at some point in this draft. I know Leon McQuay III could end up playing corner, but that was a big need for Kansas City, as was inside linebacker and they waited until much later to address it.
Let’s check out what everyone else said, shall we?
