Kansas City Chiefs Select Tanoh Kpassagnon in Second Round of 2017 NFL Draft
The pick is in and the Kansas City Chiefs have made Tanoh Kpassagnon their second round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Kpassagnon spent his college career at Villanova and will now be helping out the Chiefs on defense.
Well after an exciting first round for the KC Chiefs, they went back to the basics, which for the Chiefs is on the defensive side of the ball. Tanoh Kpassagnon is the selection and he should give the Chiefs some amazing help on defense.
In three seasons with the Wildcats, Kpassagnon racked up 20 sacks, including 11 during his final season in 2016.
The Chiefs need help rushing the passer and perhaps Tanoh Kpassagnon will help the team with that. Justin Houston can’t seem to stay healthy, Tamba Hali is aging and losing his edge, and Dee Ford…. Well, who knows about Dee Ford honestly?
This might have been a surprising name for Chiefs fans, but the pick itself impressed the analysts on ESPN. Trey Wingo noted that the Chiefs will put Kpassagnon right to work on their defensive scheme and lining him up opposite Justin Houston will scare opposing offenses silly.
The Chiefs won’t draft again until pick 104 in the third round. They had two third round picks, but traded one in order to acquire Patrick Mahome in the first round. Kansas City still needs to pick up a running back, a cornerback, and an inside linebacker and perhaps they’ll try to get another pick in round three.
Ben Almquist noted in his live war room that Kpassagnon wasn’t on his draft radar at all, so hopefully this will be one of those pleasant surprises like Marcus Peters was a few years ago. Nobody expected the Chiefs to draft Peters that year and now here we are two years later and he’s one of the best cornerbacks in football.
I trust John Dorsey and Andy Reid to make these decisions and if they see something in Tanoh Kpassagnon, then I’m all for it, man.
Welcome to Chiefs Kingdom, Tanoh!
