KC Chiefs fans were elated when the team traded up to get Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chiefs traded up from the 27th pick to grab Mahomes and it was hard not to be excited.

Wow. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing on Thursday night when the Kansas City Chiefs jumped up and grabbed their franchise quarterback in the first round of the draft.

It came at a hefty price of a first round and a third round this year and a first round next year, but it’s safe to say that Chiefs fans don’t care. Sure, a big trade for a guy who won’t be playing this year seems steep, but hey… This is what the fan base wanted.

The Chiefs finally got their quarterback and it’s the first time since 1983 that the team has grabbed a signal caller in the first round. They opted to go with Patrick Mahomes over Deshaun Watson, which surprised me, but I trust John Dorsey and Andy Reid.

Mahomes can flat out sling the football, which is the opposite of what Alex Smith can do. The young Red Raider will need some time to sit and learn before taking over, but fortunately the Chiefs have Smith under contract for two more seasons. This is the perfect scenario for Mahomes to step into.

So, what was the reaction like on the Twittersphere? Take a look.

For many of us, this is the first time the Kansas City Chiefs have drafted a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft. I was over the moon when I saw that the Chiefs had swapped spots with the Bills and was just hoping that it wasn’t a move for a linebacker or a cornerback.

I really didn’t see this happening, but boy am I glad I was wrong. This is an awesome night for Chiefs Kingdom!

Next up, the Chiefs will hopefully add a pass rusher and a running back with their two picks they have on Friday evening. It’s hard to be upset with the amount given up for Patrick Mahomes because this is the guy that John Dorsey sees as the future at quarterback and I trust Dorsey fully.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Are you as excited as I am about the Kansas City Chiefs finally nabbing a quarterback in the first round?
