2017 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Dallas Cowboys – Leigh Oleszczak

Wide Receiver. Washington. John Ross. 28. player. 123. The Cowboys have their quarterback of the future and their running back of the future. Now they need a fresh new target to include on offense and that will come in the form of John Ross. Ross is freaky fast and could put the Cowboys over the top. He’s a steal this late in the first round.

KC Kingdom Scouting Report:

Ross missed his entire junior year with an ACL injury, but made up for it with an outstanding senior campaign. He totaled 81 receptions for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also had over 100 yards rushing with a touchdown on the ground as well.

Insider Talk – NFL.com:

“He will get emotional on the field when he drops one or when their quarterback leaves an open deep ball short, and I’ve heard other scouts call it ‘bad body language.’ I just think he’s an edgy player. He’s competitive and shows it. You’ll take some attitude when a guy scores as many touchdowns as he does.” — West Coast scout for NFC team

Staff Reaction:

The Cowboys choosing to improve at WR isn’t the worst thing in the world. However, there are other areas the Cowboys need to address. Their secondary and pass rush is especially disconcerting. Derek Barnett could garner some attention here for the Cowboys as they look to upgrade at DE as he played in a 4-3 defense at Tennessee. ~ Jesse Holt

I can see Jerry Jones making this pick. However, I’m looking at Derek Barnett on the board and wondering how Dallas can pass on him. The Cowboys need to do something about their defense if they want to be serious contenders. ~ Ben Almquist
