2017 NFL Draft: KC Kingdom Mock Draft

Arizona Cardinals – Ben Almquist

13. player. 32. At 37 years old, Carson Palmer is close to retirement. The Cardinals have to think about the future, and it makes no sense to put it off. With his big arm and scrambling ability, Patrick Mahomes would be a great fit in the Arizona offense.. Quarterback. Texas Tech. Patrick Mahomes

KC Kingdom Scouting Report:

Obviously what pops out when looking at Mahomes’ draft stock are his stats. The kid put up crazy numbers at Texas Tech, throwing for 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in three seasons with the Red Raiders. Freakish numbers, man.

Insider Talk – NFL.com:

“He’s got a great arm, big balls and he’s mobile. He is going to drive his head coach crazy for the first couple of years and there is no getting around that. If it clicks for him and he’s coachable, I think he could become a special quarterback.” – NFC executive

Staff Reaction:

The Cardinals absolutely need to be thinking about the future at the quarterback position so this is a great selection for them. Crazy that three not-so-great quarterbacks are already off the board less than 15 picks into the draft, but that’s today’s NFL for ya! Leigh Oleszczak

The Cardinals need answers at quarterback, there is no question about that, but is Mahomes too much of a risk to take? The Cardinals need answers now at quarterback and unless Trubisky or Watson are available by the time the Cardinals get their pick I could see them pass on the QB option. ~ Trevor Beurman
