The Kansas Jayhawk All-Time Team: The Head Coach

Dr. Forrest “Phog” Allen

Phog Allen never coached any of the players on this list, which makes his records even more unbelievable. His name is on the building of the place where the Jayhawks play, and he is definitely the best coach of the KU Basketball program.

If I do not do Phog Allen’s coaching description justice, then Joel Wagler did a great job of it with Allen at the top of his coaches list.

Phog Allen coached Kansas University, Baker University, and the Haskell Indian Institute. To go into a statistical standpoint, Phog Allen had a coaching record of 746-264 which accounts for all the schools he coached for.

Allen, if he did not already do enough for the sport of basketball, persuaded the Olympic committee to include basketball in the 1936 Olympics. Following getting the game in the Olympics, Phog Allen eventually became the head coach of the Olympic team in 1952.

He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959. With the players on the court and the mind on the sideline this team would be unstoppable. Any attempts at the basket would be blocked by Wilt the Stilt.

The offense will be commanded by the tough as nails leader himself Frank Mason, and the athleticism of the backcourt should account for numerous scoring with Paul Pierce, Bud Stallworth, and Danny Manning.
